I bought this as an LP back in the 60's, and played the grooves off it every Christmas. I was very happy with the Seller and the transaction, which went smoothly and very speedily. In this modern day, it is not convenient to haul out the LPs, so I was so delighted to find the exact same musical treat on CD. It is the most welcome addition to my musical collection in a new Era, and it fits in just as GREAT as ever. I am a happy customer. Thank you, Amazon, for allowing the experience.
OMG do NOT buy this CD.I grew up listening to a wonderful stereo vinyl version that we took very good care of, and later on I bought another one before it went totally out of print sometime in the 80's. The keeper of the vault who released this particular master to you should be banished and shot. The alternate takes alone render this release a non-event. Each and every song starts about a half step flat until the tape speeds up after a few seconds. A sad footnote to a brilliant career and an equally brilliant album. In some cases, there is such bad wow and flutter throughout the tunes that I feel as if I'm about to lose my lunch. That vinyl print is the album Chet made -- this CD has royally jacked it up in a way that is truly unlistenable.It's as if R&T forgot to bake the tapes before mastering. It really is that bad.
What a disrespectful smear on Uncle Chet's legacy. indeed, on high fidelity in general.A note to Razor & Tie (a label not usually associated with releases that suck) -- next time, call RCA's corporate office in Tokyo, Germany or elsewhere and find a real clean safety master of the original if one is available. None of them are good enough to sit alongside Chet's original choices, and they are all sonically compromised as well so why bother.I am confident I could transfer my cleanest vinyl copy of this album to digital and have something a million times better than this. :'(
This was a Christmas album, my mother had when I was a child. This was always a favorite of mine, really takes me back to that time. I still played this album, but wanted it on CD. I wasn't sure if it had been produced in that form, anyway, I found it here and was very pleased.
And no matter what it is a great addition to a Christmas collection. Yes, I'll admit it. There's no other guitarist like Chet Atkins. I didn't own this release on record and don't have the same pre-conceived notions on it. I couldn't tell you that it was mastered for CD at the wrong speed like other reviewers.What I could tell you is that I didn't hear this release until I picked up the CD. He was a master of the six-string and this release provides great reditions of Yultide faves, only the way Chet can do it.Maybe this sounded better on vinyl and we got cheated when it was remastered to CD. Nevertheless, it's Chet Atkins playing Christmas tunes.what more persuasion do you need.
I have owned a copy of this on vinyl since it was originally released. Chet's version of Jingle Bell Rock was used for background on all the radio advertisements during that period at Christmas time. Even today this song is widely played around the holidays. With the inclusion of the Anita Kerr singers this is easily the best Christmas Album of all time.
